Q&A: Input & Output Management with Lasernet

We recently hosted a Facebook Live session featuring CuroGens’ CEO Jesper Kehlet, as well as Lasernet Managing Director, Anders Terp, to discuss the many benefits of Lasernet’s input and output management software.

During the session, we addressed many valuable questions regarding the software and its capabilities. Below, we have provided answers to these questions:

Q: What if I decide to use Lasenet with my current Dynamics ERP – and then a year from now I upgrade my ERP or move to the cloud – would I need to go in and reassign all of the customizations for my reports?

A: No – you can actually reuse the same set up you have on your current Dynamics ERP without having to redo anything in the event that you upgrade or move to the cloud.

Q: Is there a particular industry that would benefit the most from Lasernet’s solutions?

AT: Lasernet works with a variety of different industries and we are able to accommodate all industry needs. We offer different packages for various industries which include templates that work best with the data gathered for reporting.

JK: There is one thing I’d like to add to that – industries that have a higher volume of paperwork will obviously benefit more from Lasernet. If you have bill of ladings, international customs documents, barcode printing in a warehouse, etc. you are going to get more out of the software and to save even more money. However, a distribution company that only prints confirmations and invoices may still have a need.

Q: Some customers like for their item numbers to be added to the invoice for their reference. Is it possible to have that listed for some customers but not for others in Lasernet?

JK: We’ve done that, so yes – absolutely! We can set up various rules in Lasernet for when particular elements need to show up on an invoice. We can also set up rules for certain customers, or group of customers, that show pricing on a package label or don’t show pricing on a package label. Those are actual requests that we have received in the past so we can absolutely set up rules to accommodate.

Q: Is Lasernet for large businesses only?

AT: No – obviously it makes the business case better because of the volume of documents you’re sending through the system, but in theory we aren’t concerned with business size. We also sometimes see smaller companies that send out a lot of documents, so you’d be surprised.

JK: Lasernet comes in three different sizes: small, medium, and large so there is an option that fits everybody. As a company grows, they could choose to upgrade with additional services for redundancy and better security if they wanted as well. However, they don’t have to start out with those services if they are smaller and it isn’t needed at the time.

Q: For design, would you recommend using Publisher rather than Word? And does the former make for more precise placement, fields, texts, etc.?

AT: It is up to the customer and what they choose to work with. We actually have some customers that use InDesign and other Adobe apps to create forms. It’s really up to them.

Q: Do you need to know AX’s X++ language to design in Lasernet?

AT: No – we’ve set it up to be a simple drag-and-drop software that makes it easy to design without knowledge of the X++ language.

JK: To add to that, we’ve been able to implement some advanced features in Lasernet without a single line of code – just a few clicks and a bit of set up.

Q: If I switched to Lasernet for design reporting, what would happen to the barcodes used in the warehouse?

JK: Nothing. If they use code 3 of 9 or if they use UPC, Lasernet will support the barcodes.
